Prior to passing the California Bar exam in 2005, Lana Clark worked as a paralegal for over 20 years in estate/trust and civil litigation matters. Her broad base of legal experience and concentration in representing business owners and handling estate planning, probate and trust administration, conservatorships and trust litigation allows her to work well with clients in these areas.

 PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION
Certification as a Specialist in Estate Planning, Trusts and Probate Law was bestowed by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization in 2012.  As of summer 2019, only 16 attorneys in Santa Barbara County have achieved this designation and only 2% of attorneys statewide are specialists in one of eleven fields.  Clark, a Solvang resident, is currently the only certified estate and trust specialist in the Santa Ynez, Lompoc and Santa Maria valleys.

Draft estate plans for estates ranging from modest to those in excess of $50 million; analyze and revise existing trusts to identify and solve drafting problems. 

Establish and terminate conservatorships and guardianships and prepare annual accountings for court approval.

Process probate estates exceeding $2 million in value, including probate sales of real property.

Administer trusts for quick resolution, trust administration petitions and post mortem tax planning.

ASHLEY HUSSEY


Ashley, a Santa Barbara native, has practiced in the area of estate planning and administration for several years.  Prior to joining Lana Clark & Associates she worked for Okura & Associates, a boutique trusts and estates firm in Hawaii.  Ashley holds a JD from Santa Clara University, where she was a member of the Arbitration Team and a volunteer with the Community Law Center. She holds a BA in Philosophy from UC Santa Cruz.  Ashley is admitted to the California and Hawaii Bars.

 
Ashley’s practice encompasses many aspects of trust and estate law: preparation of estate planning documents including revocable and irrevocable trusts (e.g. Special Needs Trusts); handling of probates and trust administrations from start to finish including drafting of various petitions, fiduciary accountings and subtrust funding; representation of probate and LPS conservators in obtaining conservatorships and fulfilling their duties; strategizing with clients and their advisors to preserve assets and minimize estate, income and property taxes.  Ashley is experienced in areas that often intersect with estate planning such as real estate and business entities, and she frequently drafts and negotiates contracts and advises on transactional matters.

 Ashley takes great satisfaction in informing and empowering her clients, helping them to achieve their financial, family and charitable goals, and promoting and protecting their interests.  She is a member of the Trusts and Estates Section of the California Lawyers Association and is committed to furthering her knowledge in this specialized area of the law.​​
